Rep. Bill Young (R-FL) has sent a letter to Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, asking her to explain why the Department of Health and Human Services has not yet implemented the recommendations of the National Academy of Sciences concerning the stockpiling and distribution of KI.
The letter, the first of its kind sent to a member of the Obama Administration, requests among other things specific information about the size of the national stockpile, whether the amount is sufficient to meet the demands of the current law, and how much would need to be procured to meet the recommendations of the report of the National Academy of Sciences?
Rep. Young is serving his 20th term in Congress. Representing the 10th District in Florida, Mr. Young is a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, and is the ranking member on the Subcommittee on Defense. In addition to his expertise in the military national security, the Congressman has been a leading advocate for increased biomedical research.
